This little Giacometti-esque sculpture was made from pewter using the lost-wax casting method. Not only did this stick-figure win me a Scholastic Art Gold Key award, but she also sparked my enthusiasm for metal working and metal sculpture, in particular. I went on to take two semesters of “welding for art” in college, and have always found working in the medium of metal to be infinitely preferable to stone. I guess I simply don't have Michaelangelo's patience.
Below, you can see La Donna from another angle and me posing with her at the Nevada Museum of Art, where she was featured as a part of the Scholastic Art Awards competition.
